Arianna Regaglia

She was born in 1997 in province of Pavia. In 2016, after completing her scientific studies, she enrolled at the Politecnico di Milano. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design exhibiting her thesis project at the 29th edition of Milano Unica, subsequently she undertakes the Master’s Degree Course in Design for the Fashion System.
She believes in the importance of a design capable of combining logic and creativity, this has led her to become passionate about materials and technologies for the fashion design.

Abstract
The fashion industry is one of the most polluting in the world, it is estimated that clothing alone is responsible for 2-10% of the european environmental impact. The growing awareness linked to these issues has made sustainability a key point for the future of the textile field, alternatives with low environmental impact are increasingly seeking in terms of textiles, production, use of water and new raw materials.
This thesis aims to investigate the potential of bacterial cellulose as a sustainable raw material inserted in a zero waste production logic, addressing issues ranging from the replacement of traditional fabrics and treatments, the integration of waste materials and accessory components, the removal of seams, arriving at the creation of forms and structures not achievable within the classic production systems without waste. The final output of the research is a fashion collection oriented to sustainability, aimed at highlighting and exploiting the potential of this biofabricated material still little used in fashion design.
