From mind to reality

In 2010 The Economist devoted its cover to “deluge of data” (the Deluge Date) which threatened to overwhelm businesses and governments that had not taken seriously the phenomenon and had not taken adequate countermeasures. The deluge has arrived, but the feeling is that the potential inherent in the many data that we have at our disposal – and increasingly also ourselves we produce – is still largely unvoiced. The technologies for digital fabrication now allow to represent in multisensory way the digital datum, that we can then see and touch in on the aspects more dynamic.

From Mind To Reality is a project of experimentation that has explored the theme of data representation through the manufacturing processes digital.

From 2 to 6 May 2016 Polifactory together with Density Design have organized a workshop, supported by Fondazione Politecnico and financed by Fondazione Banca Nazionale delle Comunicazioni, that has involved 50 students of the School of Design at the Politecnico di Milano: students of the Master of Science Degree in Communication Design and students of the bachelor in Design & Engineering.

The results of the workshop are 10 projects that explore different forms of relationship between data and digital manufacturing: enhance the physical size and l’interaction tactile also with the given greater empathy and an assimilation easier and more profound the value of data, stimulate new behaviors.
